Tournament Poker Edge Producing WSOP Podcasts from Las Vegas

The action is heating up at the 2014 World Series of Poker and it is no surprise that some of the pros at the popular poker training site Tournament Poker Edge are thick in the action.  You can hear about how things have been going for one of the site's trainers in a recent podcast entitled "Marc 'aznAllin007' Alioto's WSOP $1,500 Run."

The crew at Tournament Poker Edge has rented a house and, as you can imagine, even when they're relaxing by the pool, they are talking poker.  The 21-minute podcast features TPE co-founder and contributor Derek "Killingbird" Tenbusch talking with Alioto about his recent experiences in a WSOP side event.

One of the things I enjoy the most about many of the podcasts at Tournament Poker Edge is the feeling that you are actually sitting in the living room (or in this case, they are actually outside by their swimming pool) listening to friends discuss poker.

The podcast opens up talking about the players at Alioto's table and his path to building a healthy 50 big blind stack on the bubble.  Here is where the podcast gets really interesting, as three away from the bubble Alioto, woke up with 7-7 and was facing a 3bet raise from an opponent who had been aggressive all day and had Alioto's stack well covered with about 100 big blinds.

So what would you do in this situation?  You haven't cashed yet in the WSOP; does this dictate your decision?  Does it even matter that the opponent has been opening 100% of the pots that are folded to him pre-flop?

Alioto debated this on the podcast and discussed the possibility of setting up a raising war with 4betting with the intention of 6betting if it came to it.  The reason Alioto thought this could have been the right move is that there was tons of fold equity and he might have been able to take down a huge pot without seeing a flop.

Caution took over and Alioto decided to play it safe and just call the 3bet made by his aggressive villain.  Whether this is the right move in the long-term is a good question, but it makes you think that sometimes you have to think about the short-term when playing events that are typically much higher than your normal tournament buy-ins.

You'll have to listen to the podcast to hear about the entire hand, but it turns out Alioto made the correct move, especially if you are results-oriented, since his opponent woke up with pocket aces.

Near the end of the podcast, Alioto and Tenbusch discussed how Tournament Poker Edge pro Casey "bigdocpckt5s" Jarzabek was faring.

Regardless of how the Tournament Poker Edge pros end up doing in Vegas, I can tell you one thing: they are having a good time.  They are also constantly self-analyzing their own play, which is a lesson to be learned in itself.  You should definitely check out this podcast if you haven't already done so since you can pick up a few pointers on some live play.  You don't have to be a Tournament Poker Edge member to listen and you can subscribe to all of the podcasts via iTunes.
